Depression, anxiety, addiction = ADHD

Professor Phillip Asherson told the annual meeting of The Royal College of Psychiatrists that ADHD in adults may manifest as depression, anxiety, or addiction. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence is expected to recommend the use of stimulant medication for adults diagnosed with ADHD. Asherson said that it is currently unknown whether the other disorders co-exist with ADHD or if ADHD manifests itself differently in adults. Further research is planned to determine whether stimulant medication may be effective in treating anxiety and depressive symptoms in adults.
