ADHD and Weight Concerns
What is up with all of the Attention Deficit studies coming out lately? The July 2008 issue of Pediatrics has a study examining children with an ADHD diagnosis to determine if they were at an increased risk of being overweight. Researchers looked at data from a representative national sample of kids and youth aged 5 to 17. They found that children and youth with a diagnosis of ADHD or ADD were about 1.5 times more likely to be overweight than those without a diagnosis. If they were on medication to treat ADHD, they were about 1.6 times more likely to be underweight.
