Mood Disorder in Sibling Means You're More Likely to Have a Depressive Episode
A study published in the December issue of the Journal of Family Psychology indicates that siblings of people who have an anxiety or depressive disorder are 63 percent more likely to report an episode of depression in their lives. Interestingly, the poorer mental health outcome for the siblings they studied only applied to siblings that had brothers with a mental illness. That is, those with a sister experiencing a mental illness did not appear to have any significant ill effects. The researchers speculate that both heredity and environment are at play in this phenomenon.The study followed people over 4 decades. You can read more here.
